Ok, um. I thought the first post in this thread was less about vulgarity and having people cuss but having people cuss *at* you and telling you to phluck your mom.

Well it's not really part of the game, so the rating can't be based off of that. Neither ANet or ESRB can't be held responsible for the actions of others. That's why the rating on the back says "game experience may change during online play".

I think somewhere in the GWG Q&A that it said it was from some Austrailian show. The link in the wiki for it was pretty confusing, though...I dunno if it was the host or someone in the audience yell "Go you little red engine!"

Steps to fixing this situation for the op and people against swearing:
1. Turn on common sense and then swear filter
2. Step out of real world and return to Christian/Amish town and resume sheltered life.
3. If you want to stay on the net without seeing swear words, join one of those "Mature Adult Guilds, NO TEENS!" you see advertising in towner. *cough* Then proceed to turn of local, emote (just incase someone starts dancing, and trade.

To be fair there are some people who just swear alot to try to be kewl in teh skewl, but those people are usually by themselves trying to figure why their build is so bad. I don't see why you people against swearing just can't laugh at someone swearing stupidly or doing something stupid/funny in local instead of saying I m gonna report u!! Yeah if they try to get past the swear filter it's reportable but not that big of a deal, I think they just don't want CHILDREN to see the swear words when they are playing. Do you gasp when you go to the movie theartre and see that they are swearing?!
Dear Anet, after you fix HoM and start posting in forums again, please add PK to Guild Wars 2. The community needs to fix things it self.

Did you somehow miss the following part of the ratings box?

"Game experience may change during online play." This means that people aren't all going to see the same things as everyone else, and that peope will have varying experiences within the game. That's something the devs can't control (though this also describes how updates to the game occur as needed).

The ESRB (and other ratings agencies around the world) can't look at a game and know what people are going to say and do. All they can do is look at a game, determine what age the content within the game is sutiable for, and slap the game with the rating they decide.

In fact, since every online game with chat is going to experience people saying disgusting, offensive, or vulgar things, then -every singe online game- would have to be rated M or AO.

EDIT: Oh, and about the whole RED ENGINE thing, I don't really know the origin, but when someone sees you typing such a ridiculous phrase repeatedly, it really creates a disincentive to swear, doesn't it? I think that's why it was chosen.

LMAO me too!!!!

it jsut makes me wanna commit suicide.
But some u say that kids not curse right? you are VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY wrong.
I myself am 14, and u cant beleive how much i curse, msot likely once every 5-7 sentences(AVERAGE for TEENS, GOOGLE it if u dont beleive me)
First if u think that, then u are VERY dumb, because kids are the people who swear the most.

Just wanted to get that of my chest, have, and trust me u DONT know ur kids if u think that they dont swear

You're only 14 and you think you can speak for every culture? I'd like to say you're far smarter than I am, but I think I'd like to stop myself dying with laughter for another 3 or 4 years.

Thats a bit of an immature response, dont you think?

Anyways, the EULA is pretty clear on the whole thing, it is a bannable offence and if Anet chooses to take action over the use of any particular swear word they're full entitled to do so.

Sure, there's a filter and sure, there's an ignore option or you can just turn off local chat but the point is that you shouldnt have to but unfortunately the GIF principle holds true in GW as well.

Personally I dont have a problem with someone saying 'd*mn' or 'f*ck*, I do have a problem with people spouting racist remarks and abusive behavior, if you dont then you're part of the problem.

Some people have to stop being ignorant about the world. It's the internet, there are people from point A to Z. Learn to live with it, or go play Mario on your gamecube and gtfo.

I was on vacations for a while...that's why i didn't reply. First of all sorry about my spelling i saw someone complaining about it...lol. Most suggested turning on the Filter, well ye it doesn't annoy me for some friends or ppl i know through the internet to tell me RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO you or anything like that. I mean it's the word that annoys me, plus there are many ways to overpass the filters come on lol. I put the filter to maximum and i typed F*ck you B*tch moth...... etc and guess what filter didnt do anything...i think the recipient got the point :P
The reason i made this post is because i got pretty angry with the fact that someone i don't know from anywhere starts telling me to go RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO my mother and laughs...and when i report this to anet they dont give a crap...I play lots of pvp and many times ppl start swearing...i never rly mind, they probably got angry with losing or something. But this... completely violates the EULA agreement...and believe me the story is as i described (some said i didnt say the full story..y would i make a post if i just had a fight with a guy, y would i even report him.)
P.S. Some rly mature guys said it's the internet bla bla bla... cry baby etc well
if i walk on the street and someone tells me to go RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO my mother im gonne start a fight...i guess you will say oh come on it's the real life lol @ u.
RED ENGINE etc= swears the filter of guru stopped for those who don't know

Guess I'm lucky. Haven't seen any profanity or rudeness in GW lately.

Report, ignore list. These people show up in WoW, in EVE Online, and probably everything else.

Well not for my old guild leader. He placed that guy on the ignore list many times, and each time he took him off (after about a week or so I think) the guy would be right back to messaging him. He did this for some time, until my guild leader just left him on ignore haha.

Im pretty sure I was introduced to even the most rude of swear words before I hit the age of ten. Anyone child playing on GW would have heard it all before unless they live a sheltered existance or something. Anyway if parents get so worked up over it they really shouldnt be letting there kids into any mmorpg as bad language is used in all games and so is other undesirable stuff.

Words dont really harm people especially over the interwebz.

Quit your RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing crying and deal with it. Swears are a part of life. Use the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing swear filter and move on. RED engine lololol People like you are the people who need to be banned from this game, reporting everything "WRONG" that people do. People like you are the reason my very first gw char got banned, i hate you. Because something is offensive to you, does not mean you should go and ruin their gameplay.

Should have been the only post here, close please? Herb hit the nail on the coffin, if your old enough to be on the game let alone the internet, you should be old enough to handle some cuss words now and then.
